When I was creating my Taco Night tablescape, I wanted to add napkin rings that complemented my Taco Tuesday Lazy Susan serving tray. The tray featured a colorful pom pom border painted with COLORSHOT Premium Markers. My goal was to find napkin rings that I could also paint with the same colors.

I turned to Amazon to search for napkin rings and hit the jackpot! I found the perfect farmhouse napkin rings that featured natural wood beads and a jute tassel. These wood beads would be easy to paint to match the pom poms on the serving tray.

COLORSHOT markers are highly-pigmented and the paint is permanent on a wide-range of light and dark materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, glass and more. Therefore, I knew they would work great on the wood beads.

I ran into a minor issue when painting the beads. I had to separate the beads to prevent paint from transferring from one bead to another. With a little trial and error, I settled on a simple fix using foil, which I’ll explain in the instructions below.

Materials

Farmhouse wood napkin rings
COLORSHOT Premium Markers
Foil
Something to protect workspace

Instructions

Collect Your Supplies: Cover your workspace to protect it from wet paint. Gather your pack of COLORSHOT premium markers (I used the Rainbow Acrylic pack) and your napkin rings. You also will need some foil.
Cut Small Pieces of Tinfoil: Tear or cut small pieces of foil about 2" to 3" square. You will need 9 pieces for each napkin ring.
Roll Up the Foil: Roll up each piece of foil and place a piece between each of the beads.
Create Space Between Beads: Use the foil to create a space between each of the beads. Also place a piece of foil between the first bead and the tassel. This is to prevent the transfer of wet paint from one surface to another.
Prime the Markers: With the cap on, shake the COLORSHOT markers to mix the paint before use. Take off the cap and pump the marker tip up and down on a separate test surface until the paint flows.
Paint the Beads: Use COLORSHOT premium markers to paint the beads. I found it helpful to paint every other bead and let the paint dry for 30 minutes before painting the remaining beads. The paint dries to the touch in about 30 minutes and cures in 24 hours. Once you've finished painting, clean the marker tip according to the directions on the package. Also, remove and dispose of the foil.
