4th of July Table Decor for a Star-Spangled Celebration

My 4th of July table decor was inspired by Americana Watercolor Enamel Salad Plates from Pottery Barn. See how I created a patriotic tablescape for my outdoor table using these festive plates and other items.

July Tablescape Inspiration

Where do you find inspiration for your tablescapes? The inspiration for my July 4th tablescape came from salad plates! I knew I wanted to feature red, white and blue plates on my table, but I didn’t have a specific pattern in mind. So I set out on virtual quest to find patriotic plates. I searched Amazon, eBay, Overstock, Facebook Marketplace and Google.

Somewhere along the way I found the perfect Americana salad plates from Pottery Barn. These watercolor enamel plates contained the perfect shades of red and blue in festive patterns. Once I found these, I set out to create the rest of my patriotic tablescape.

Americana Salad Plates

These are the salad plates that inspired the table decor. The watercolor flag pattern, the blue stars, and the stripes were ideal for a patriotic tablescape.

Patriotic Place Settings

Instead of using white dinner plates, I decided to feature bold colors under the salad plates. I chose to use a mix of red plates, white plates and blue plates from the Fiestaware Bistro Collection. Technically, the Fiesta brand colors are Scarlet, White, and Lapis. I added galvanized black metal chargers to frame the plates, matte black silverware and blue cooler glasses.

Star-Spangled Table Linens

The Pottery Barn Americana collection features napkins and placemats. Those were a nice addition to the patriotic table runner I made last summer using fabric from JOANNs. Check out The Americana Shop from Pottery Barn for more festive items in their collection.

4th of July Centerpieces

To add height and texture to the tablescape, I added more decorative elements. I found red, white, and blue flowers and a pair of galvanized metal buckets at Michaels. I thought they would make a cute July centerpiece. Fresh flowers would look beautiful too (but the Michaels flowers will last longer). Instead of metal containers, you could use glass vases or mason jars with red, white and blue ribbons for your patriotic centerpieces.

To create another patriotic centerpiece for the table, I displayed festive desserts on a white cake stand. The cake stand and the white pitcher at the end of the table are from Target.

I found star shape decorations in patriotic colors to sprinkle on the table. In addition to providing texture, these red, white, and blue rattan stars were an easy way to add a whimsical element to the table. I found them on Amazon, but you could probably pick up plain rattan stars or balls or unfinished wood stars at a craft store and simply spray paint them.

My 4th of July Gnomes

The three patriotic gnomes in the background were a birthday present from my awesome daughter, since she knows I’ve been into gnomes this past year. Adding them to the side table was an easy Fourth of July decoration. In return for her thoughtful gift, I won’t hang the gnome shower curtain this Christmas since she and my son didn’t like having three gnomes staring at them when they were in the bathroom 🤣.

July 4th Festivities

I’m looking forward to celebrating the 4th of July this year! Since I recently added string lights to our backyard pergola and my husband thoroughly enjoys using the meat smoker he got for Christmas, I envision a festive Independence Day celebration in our backyard.

In July, I’ll set out the outdoor decorations I created last summer, including a patriotic wreath made from leftover fabric and 3 mason jars adorned with festive ribbons (one with red flowers, one with white flowers, and one with (you guessed it!) blue flowers). These were easy DIY projects.

What are you doing for the 4th of July this year? Are you planning a fun summer BBQ, a patriotic party, or other patriotic celebrations? Do you have anything planned for your July table decorations? Let me know in the comments below.
